This PAS specifies requirements for greyhound trainers’ residential kennels.

NOTE Attention is drawn to the legal requirements relating to the planning and construction of a greyhound trainers’ residential kennels.

It covers requirements for:

  1. building construction;

  2. unit sizes;

  3. lighting and ventilation;

  4. unit and kennel interiors;

  5. flooring;

  6. drainage;

  7. bedding;

  8. electrical appliances;

  9. exercise;

  10. diet;

  11. environmental enrichment;

  12. monitoring behaviour, health and welfare;

  13. handling and training;

  14. identification of greyhounds;

  15. veterinary healthcare;

  16. isolation facilities;

  17. vaccinations;

  18. waste removal;

  19. cleaning and disinfectant;

  20. emergency precautions;

  21. kennel security;

  22. food preparation and storage; and

  23. utilities – electric lighting, working telephone and access to water.

It does not cover:

  1. greyhound track kennels;

  2. kennels for greyhounds under 15 months old;

    NOTE Greyhounds that are deemed puppies and/or are an age whereby they are ineligible to race are covered by this PAS if they are kept in greyhound trainers’ residential kennels.

  3. kennels for retired greyhounds; and

    NOTE Retired greyhounds kept in greyhound trainers’ residential kennels fall within the scope of this PAS, however, kennels used exclusively for keeping retired greyhounds, including kennels used as a facility for re-homing retired greyhounds, are outside the scope of this PAS.

  4. transportation of greyhounds.

This PAS is for use by trainers of greyhounds for racing.

This PAS does not cover other breeds of dogs that are used for the purposes of racing.
