This is the first edition of CSA Z94.4.1, Performance of filtering respirators.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard is intended to support a national respirator certification program for Canada.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

CSA Group acknowledges that the development of this Standard was made possible, in part, by funding and support of the Standards Council of Canada.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1.1 In scope<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard specifies performance requirements for respirators that operate in the air filtering mode for filtering particulate matter.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1.2 Out of scope<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard does not address the following:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

a) respirators with filters for gas\/vapour removal, which will be covered in a future edition;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

b) respirators that operate in the atmosphere-supplying mode, or requirements for the atmosphere-supplying mode of combined respirators;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

c) equipment that does not provide respiratory protection performance meeting at least Protection Level 1 as defined in CAN\/CSA Z94.4-18, such as surgical masks or cloth masks;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

d) sampling and quality assurance requirements for respirator manufacturing; and<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

e) procedures for the application for, and the administering and issuing of, certificates of respirator approval.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1.3 Terminology<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In this Standard, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.<\/p>\n
