They are:<\/p>\n<p>Method A Continuous-wave dual-frequency<\/p>\n<p>Method B Pulsed single-frequency<\/p>\n<p>Both methods require injecting very high powers (5 dBm or more)<br \/>\ninto the fiber, measurement of this power (absolute), and<br \/>\nmeasurement of the output spectrum &#8211; which is modified by nonlinear<br \/>\neffects. Both methods use calculations that combine these measured<br \/>\nresults with those derived from other measurements such as<br \/>\nattenuation (FOTP-61 or FOTP-78) and chromatic dispersion (FOTP-<br \/>\n168, FOTP-169, or FOTP-175).
