Preface

This is the second edition of CSA Z151, Concrete pumps and placing booms, and supersedes the first edition published in 2009. The Standard provides requirements for the design, manufacture, installation, operation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of concrete pumps, placing booms, and delivery systems.

This Standard was prepared in response to an increased number of incidents, resulting from equipment failures and power line contacts, involving truck-mounted concrete pumps. It is intended to facilitate a consistent level of safety for those who work in and around concrete pumps.

Existing standards, regulations, and other documentation for concrete pumps were extensively reviewed in the preparation of this Standard.

Key changes in the second edition include:

  • addition of roles and responsibilities;
  • addition of qualification requirements for concrete pump operators;
  • updates to Clause 4 (Design), Clause 5 (Inspection and testing), Clause 6 (Operation); and
  • addition of Annex A: Concrete boom pump safe work procedures, outrigger support options, and surface load bearing evaluation.
