This part of IEC 61757-2 specifies in detail specifications for fiber optic sensors containing one or more fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) as a sensitive element for strain measurements. General specifications for fiber optic sensors are defined in IEC 61757-1. This part of IEC 61757-2 lists the main properties and characteristics of a fiber optic sensor for strain measurements based on fiber Bragg gratings as sensitive element and specifies the procedures for their determination. In addition, the basic performance parameters and characteristic values of the corresponding measuring equipment for reading the optical signal from the FBG are included. This standard refers to the measurement of static and dynamic values for strain stress in a frequency range. Thus, the standard provides investment security for manufacturers and users and gives test laboratories and manufacturers defined specifications for testing.
