Data from ground-rolling tests through water with a Canberra
aircraft are analysed in the context of the modelling developed in
ESDU 10015. Because spray from the main-wheels of the aircraft
impinges on the airframe, it is necessary to introduce a
decelerating force stemming from that source. It is shown that the
impingement force is small: a plausible variation with speed number
is used to achieve a close match with deduced data over a wide
range of speed, inflation pressure and water depth.
The results of this set of experiments confirm the validity of
the modelling of decelerating forces due to single tyre's passage
through water that is developed in ESDU 10015.
