La présente partie de l'ISO 7278 donne des indications concernant les tubes étalons qui servent à étalonner les compteurs à turbine et les compteurs à chambre mesureuse. Elle s'applique à la fois aux types de tubes étalons prescrits dans l'ISO 7278-2 qui sont appelés «tubes étalons conventionnels» et à d'autres types appelés ici «tubes étalons compacts» ou «étalons de petit volume».Elle est prévue pour être utilisée comme un manuel de référence pour l'utilisation des tubes étalons et également pour la formation du personnel. Elle ne couvre pas les différences de détail entre les étalons de type sensiblement similaire réalisés par les différents fabricants.
