The first edition 2011 NFPA 276 helps you determine the heat release rate of roofing assemblies.
NFPA 276: Standard Method of Fire Test for Determining the Heat Release Rate of Roofing Assemblies with Combustible Above-Desk Roofing Components describes a method for determining the heat release rate from below the deck of roofing assemblies that have combustible above-deck roofing components when the assemblies are exposed to a fire from below the roof deck.
The first edition Standard is based on FM 4450, “Approval Standard for Class 1 Insulated Steel Roof Decks.”
The test method is based on substitution method for measuring heat release rate by using an auxiliary fuel (propane) to provide the surrogate heat. Requirements include instrumentation specification, and furnace verification and calibration. Provisions also cover reporting.
