Provides for signs using a system of coded shapes and colours with symbols which pictorially describe hazards (i.e. signs for conveying safety instructions without relying on any text message), and signs with text (words and numerals) messages (including recommendations for multi-lingual signs); accident prevention tags are also covered. The signs are classified as regulatory; caution (warning); emergency-related information (including fire signs). All standard symbolic (pictorial) signs are reproduced in colour and examples are included, also in colour, of text-type signs. Photometric and colorimetric properties of the sign materials are dealt with, and recommendations on styles and sizes of sign lettering are included.

To enable people to perform visual tasks efficiently and accurately, especially during the night, adequate and appropriate lighting has to be provided.

The degree of visibility and comfort required in a wide range of outdoor work places is governed by the type and duration of activity.

This Standard specifies the lighting requirements related to the amount and quality of lighting which will contribute to the visual needs for safety, easiness, efficiency and comfort for performing tasks within outdoor work places or other areas related thereto.

This Standard does not provide explanation on how the lighting systems should be designed to a resolve a specific problem, nor does it restrict the freedom of designers to adopt a new technology, or use of new equipment or device.

NOTE 1 For methods of designing the lighting systems and technologies to optimize a specific visual environment, related Guides and Reports of the International Commission on Illumination (Commision Internationale de lEclairage, hereafter referred to as CIE) and standards issued by the Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan should be referred to.

NOTE 2 The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows:

CIE S 015: 2005 Lighting of outdoor work places

ISO/CIE 8995-3: 2006 Lighting of work places-Part 3: Lighting requirements for safety and security of outdoor work places

(Overall evaluation: MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents in the corresponding International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified) and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.

This Standard specifies the determination method of fume emission rate and the collection method of fume for analysis at the time of arc welding by covered electrodes, solid wires for gas-shielded metal-arc welding, and tubular-cored wires for gas shielded metal-arc welding and self-shielded arc welding (hereafter referred to as the "welding consumables to be tested").

However, TIG welding which uses the filler rod for TIG welding and the solid wire is excluded because the fume emission rate is little.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 15011-1 : 2009 Health and safety in welding and allied processes – Laboratory method for sampling fume and gases – Part 1 : Determina tion of fume emission rate during arc welding and collection of fume for analysis (MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/ lEC Guide 21-1.
