{"id":239403,"date":"2024-10-19T15:39:32","date_gmt":"2024-10-19T15:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pdfstandards.shop\/product\/uncategorized\/bs-iso-258622019\/"},"modified":"2024-10-25T10:21:42","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T10:21:42","slug":"bs-iso-258622019","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/pdfstandards.shop\/product\/publishers\/bsi\/bs-iso-258622019\/","title":{"rendered":"BS ISO 25862:2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><label>1<\/label><\/p>\n<p>This document specifies requirements for the construction and performance of marine magnetic compasses for navigation and steering purposes, binnacles and azimuth reading devices.<\/p>\n<p>Two types of binnacle are specified; the appropriate type for a given vessel is determined by the design of the ship (see <span class=\"xref\">Clause&nbsp;5<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>This document applies to liquid-filled magnetic compasses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><label>\u2014<\/label>\n<p>intended for use in ship&#8217;s navigation and steering in sea navigation;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><label>\u2014<\/label>\n<p>having a direct reading system; and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><label>\u2014<\/label>\n<p>which can be of the reflecting, projecting or transmitting types.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the context of this document, a magnetic compass is an instrument consisting of a directional system supported by a single pivot inside a bowl that is completely filled with liquid and supported by gimbals inside or outside the bowl. However, this document also addresses compasses without gimbals; the requirements relating to gimbals do not apply to such compasses.<\/p>\n<p>This document applies to magnetic compasses carried on board:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li><label>a)<\/label>\n<p>all ships required to carry a standard compass as per SOLAS Chapter V, the Class&nbsp;A magnetic compass;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><label>b)<\/label>\n<p>lifeboats and rescue boats as per the IMO Lifesaving Appliances (LSA) Code, fitted with the Class&nbsp;B magnetic compass; and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><label>c)<\/label>\n<p>all ships to which a) and b) above do not apply, but which are fitted with a Class&nbsp;A or B magnetic compass.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This document does not apply to:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li><label>a)<\/label>\n<p>dry card compasses;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><label>b)<\/label>\n<p>types of compass designed on principles different from those stated above or not complying with the descriptions given; or<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><label>c)<\/label>\n<p>hand bearing compasses.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The requirements for the testing and certification of marine magnetic compasses, azimuth reading devices and binnacles are given in <span class=\"xref\">Annexes&nbsp;A<\/span>, <span class=\"xref\">B<\/span>, <span class=\"xref\">C<\/span>, and <span class=\"xref\">D<\/span>. The requirements for the positioning in ships, the determination of safe distances and the deviation adjustment of compasses are given in <span class=\"xref\">Annexes&nbsp;E<\/span>, <span class=\"xref\">F<\/span> and <span class=\"xref\">G<\/span>, respectively.
