INTRODUCTION

With the recent emphasis on reformulated gasolines, there is an

increasing demand to use methyl

tert-butyl ether (MTBE) as a blending agent for reformulated

gasolines. The accurate transfer of

MTBE requires that the volume being transferred be temperature

compensated back to customary

reference conditions. Within the United States, those conditions are

60°F and the maximum of

saturation pressure or atmospheric pressure. Most other countries have

reference conditions of

15°C and the maximum of saturation pressure or atmospheric

pressure.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this addendum is to provide the users of the API Manual

of Petroleum Measurement

Standards Chapter 11.1, "Volume Correction Factors," Volume III (Table

6C) and Volume IX (Table

54C), "Individual and Specialized Applications," with revised volume

correction factor tables for

methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). These tables are used for calculating

the volume of mixtures

composed predominantly of MTBE at standard conditions from volumes at

other conditions. These

tables apply to commercially available mixtures containing at least 85

weight percent MTBE.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

This standard does not purport to address the safety problems, if any,

associated with the use of

this publication. It is the responsibility of the user of this

standard to establish the

appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the

applicability of regulatory

limitations prior to its use.
