This Part does not directly<br \/>\naffect CDPD subscribers or Mobile End System (M-ES)<br \/>\nmanufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>CDPD Message Handling Services provide a generic message store<br \/>\nand forward service that is utilized by other CDPD Network Support<br \/>\nServices (Part 630) and some CDPD Network Application Services. The<br \/>\nMessage Handling Service is based on standards published in 1988:<br \/>\n[ISO-10021-1-7] and [CCITT-X.400].<\/p>\n<p>The [CCITT-X.400] Message Handling System (MHS) recommendations<br \/>\nprovide message exchange by means of a Message Transfer System<br \/>\n(MTS) consisting of a series of Message Transfer Agents (MTAs) that<br \/>\nare responsible for relaying a message from an originator&#039;s User<br \/>\nAgent (UA) to a recipient&#039;s UA. This specification is aligned with<br \/>\nthe 1993 issue of the <i>Industry\/Government Open System<br \/>\nSpecification (IGOSS)<\/i> [IGOSS-1].<\/p>\n<p>This Part specifies the MHS requirements in support of CDPD<br \/>\nNetwork Support Services and CDPD Network Application Services.<br \/>\nIndividual service provider networks may wish to utilize X.400 as a<br \/>\nfoundation to offer additional services.
