Specifies requirements for luminaires for use with tungsten filament, fluorescent and other discharge lamps in supply voltages up to 1000V for use in clinical areas, where medical treatment, examination and medical care takes place in hospitals and health care buildings. It does not apply to medical electrical equipment containing a light source as defined in Clause 2.2.15 of IEC 60601.
Scope
This section of IEC 60598-2 AS/NZS 60598.2 details specific requirements for luminaires for use with tungsten filament, fluorescent and other discharge lamps on supply voltages not exceeding 1 000 V for use in clinical areas in which medical treatment, examination and medical care takes place in hospitals and health care buildings.
This standard does not apply to medical electrical equipment, as defined in 2.2.15 of IEC 60601-1 AS/NZS 3200.1, containing a light source.
NOTE 1 – Subclause 2.2.15 of IEC 60601-1 AS/NZS 3200.1 states: Electrical equipment, provided with not more than one connection to a particular supply mains and intended to diagnose, treat, or monitor the patient under medical supervision and which makes physical or electrical contact with the patient and/or transfers energy to or from the patient and/or detects such energy transfer to or from the patient.
This standard does not apply to luminaires for emergency lighting and luminaires for general illumination in non-clinical areas (e.g. offices).
NOTE 2 – For these luminaire types, reference should be made to other sections of IEC 60598-2 AS/NZS 60598.2
This standard does not apply to luminaires or parts of luminaires which are designed to be sterilized by the autoclave process and luminaires for operating tables.
