This Standard specifies the shapes, dimensions, functional allocation and arrangement of the plug-fit socket type electronic switching devices (hereafter referred to as the "relays") to be used in road vehicles.

NOTE: The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows:

ISO 7588-1:1998 Road vehicle-Electrical/electronic switching device-Part 1: Relays and flashers

ISO 7588-3:1998 Road vehicle-Electrical/electronic switching device-Part 3:Microrelays (Overall evaluation: MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standards and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.
