The 2021 edition has been renamed to better characterize the various agencies, programs, and organizations accredited under the standards in the manual, including those with a human services focus. In addition, The Joint Commission revised applicability classifications for existing and new standards to align with the human services focus. This is reflected in a totally redesigned “Standards Applicability Process” chapter. The 2021 manual also includes the nearly 90 new and revised requirements related to child welfare services and a new “Child Welfare” chapter, which renamed and expanded the previous “Foster Care” chapter.
