Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

1.1<\/span> This specification covers requirements for forged steel shapes for highly stressed structural members requiring yield strengths in excess of 140 ksi [965 MPa].<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.2<\/span> This specification is not intended for applications limited by creep deformation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.3<\/span> Twenty-eight grades are covered by this specification. Selection will depend upon design, service conditions, and mechanical properties required.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.4<\/span> Supplementary requirements are provided for use when additional testing or inspection is desired. These shall apply only when specified individually by the purchaser in the order.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.5<\/span> The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.6<\/span> Unless the order specifies the applicable \u201cM\u201d specification designation, the material shall be furnished to the inch-pound units.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
