This International Standard deals with the safety of electric appliances for use with aquariums and garden ponds for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage<\/b> being not more than 250 V.<\/p>\n NOTE 101 Examples of appliances within the scope of this standard are<\/p>\n aerators;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n aquarium heaters;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n automatic food dispensers;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n sludge-suction appliances.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n Appliances not intended for normal household use but that nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops and in light industry and farms, are within the scope of this standard.<\/p>\n This European Standard deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by appliances and machines that are encountered by all persons.<\/p>\n However, in general, it does not take into account:<\/p>\n children<\/b> playing with the appliance;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n the use of the appliance by very young children<\/b>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n the use of the appliance by young children<\/b> without supervision.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n It is recognized that very vulnerable people<\/b> may have needs beyond the level addressed in this standard.<\/p>\n NOTE 102 Attention is drawn to the fact that<\/p>\n for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n NOTE 103 This standard does not apply to<\/p>\n pumps (IEC 60335\u20112\u201141);<\/p>\n<\/li>\n other portable immersion heaters (IEC 60335\u20112\u201174);<\/p>\n<\/li>\n luminaires for aquariums and garden ponds (IEC 60598\u20112\u201118);<\/p>\n<\/li>\n appliances intended for outdoor use having a rated power input<\/b> exceeding 100 W;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n appliances intended exclusively for professional use;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n Household and similar electrical appliances.
