The Item<br \/>\ndescribes a semi-empirical model of a flexible tyre, substantiated<br \/>\nby test data, that considers the forces due to rolling, slipping or<br \/>\nskidding of the tyre, due to the tyre moving through or compressing<br \/>\na contaminant and that due to the frictional interaction between<br \/>\nthe tyre compound and the runway surface. The model is shown to be<br \/>\ndependent upon nice independent variables, namely surface texture<br \/>\ndepth, contaminant depth, contaminant density, tyre inflation<br \/>\npressure, nominal tyre width, nominal tyre diameter, vertical<br \/>\nloading on the tyre, runway surface temperature and ground speed of<br \/>\nthe aircraft.
