To<br \/>\nmaintain contact the friction force must remain below the spring<br \/>\nforce. The procedures in this FOTP have been selected to estimate<br \/>\nthe maximum breakaway frictional force that will exist between the<br \/>\nferrule and the sleeve.<\/p>\n<p>The mechanics of friction result in significant variations in<br \/>\nthe measurement of breakaway friction. The criteria to be applied<br \/>\nto the results of these measurements must account for the spread<br \/>\nthat is inherent in the mechanism being measured. See Annex B<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The specimen is a connector alignment sleeve. The measurement is<br \/>\nmade with two gage pins inserted so they meet at the center of the<br \/>\nsleeve.
